Hardwood

Benefits of Hardwood

Rich and inviting, hardwood makes a distinctive statement. Because of a great range of natural variations—from boards with extreme character, distinctive grains, and color variation to those that are evenly colored and consistent—lustrous hardwood can create a uniquely beautiful floor. Your kind of floor. Warm, stylish, and original.

Drawbacks of Hardwood

Installing hardwood floors in dry climates, such as in Summit and surrounding counties, can affect the overall performance of wood floors.

Different problems can arise over a hardwood floor’s lifetime, especially if your home’s humidity level is too low. When it’s dry, hardwood floors will shrink, causing cupping and gaps between the boards. They can also split, check, and crack – all of which are the last things you want.

To prevent issues and ensure lasting performance, the humidity within your home must stay at a relative humidity level of 35% – 55%. In addition, it is important that you are aware that hardwood products not kept within the stable humidity range are not covered by the manufacturer’s and installer’s warranties.

If you are unable to keep the humidity levels in your home within the stable range and still want hardwood floors, it is recommended you only install Engineered Hardwood products as they are more stable and slightly less apt to shrinkage. A dedicated maintenance routine is necessary to curtail any other problems caused by the lack of humidity.
